Retired in a Motor Home
Home
Since I retired and got my motor home about 8 years ago, I have discovered that I really enjoy being able to drive to nice weather and have my own bed to sleep in.
I come back to the campground for the summer because the weather is nice then. Even though I retired several years ago, I still work at the campground for something to do. Otherwise, I would have to paint!
Texas Sunsets
During the off-season, I travel south until I get to t-shirt weather. Then I dawdle my way west across the southern states into Texas. Next, I head north into Oklahoma to visit my son for the holidays.
All too soon though, I have to head back up north, reversing my route. I tried once to drive more directly from home to Oklahoma. This was a bad idea! I had to cross two mountain ranges through not-so-nice weather and on winding roads with poor visibility.
Dodging Weather
This year, I was heading back on my usual Route 10 across the southern portion of the country. The weather decided to be disagreeable and there were tornadoes predicted for northern Florida. I changed plans to drive across on Route 20. More storms and flood warnings and possible tornadoes! I spent a lot of time watching various weather channels and trying to time my travel and stops to avoid the crazy stuff. Mostly, I succeeded and only had to wait out a couple of heavy rain and wind storms.
