I heard a weird clunking noise outside so I went out to locate the source.
This stupid turkey was gazing fondly at his reflection in the bumper of my F150 and pecking at it.

So I went out to shoo him away.
He had a couple of lady friends so I don’t know why he was so interested in himself.

He trotted off for the moment.
But he’s come back several more mornings to peck my bumper. Just can’t get enough of himself.
The Rhode Island DEM offers suggestions for managing the turkey herd.
PECKING TURKEY REFLECTION
During the breeding season, male turkeys may mistake their reflection in a car door or window as
another turkey and attempt to peck or attack their reflection. These behaviors are not generally
dangerous to people, but can result in property damage as windows and car paint may require repairs
from scratches. The best solution is to cover reflective surfaces with a non-reflective material (e.g.,
bedsheet, old towel, or cloth) until the turkey disperses to a new area.
So basically, the RI DEM says I should drape old sheets over my pickup truck so the turkeys can’t see it.
